Congrats to my littlest boy on 14 super fun months!
So here
we go. This is a recap of Adrian’s
development over the last month.
He’s a Foodie in Practice
The
information on BabyCenter says that in the beginning of the 14th
month (13 months 1 Week) it may be common to notice a reduction in a toddler’s
appetite. This is definitely not the
case with Adrian. Because I’ve been so
slackish on getting his updates posted, I haven’t made much note of how great
his appetite is, but he really does have an outstanding appetite.
Of course
we always feed the boys healthyand high quality foods and
throw in treats every now and then, but whether eating broccoli or a fruit
strip, Adrian will down his food with great enthusiasm! He’s so fun to watch as he enjoys his
food. He’s my little foodie!
*A fun
tidbit is that he dances in his seat when he’s happy about his food and also
shakes his head no at things he does not want (or turns his head away). He will also walk to his chair and wait to be
put in when he knows its meal time.
My Little Dreamer
“Even if your child has
been sleeping soundly for months, he may now start waking up again at night. one
new potential sleep
disturbance at this age is dreaming. Between 12 and 14 months, kids
start actively dreaming, and a dream can actually startle your child awake.”
Adrian
has definitely had some sleep disturbances over the last several weeks. I had not attributed it to this, but it makes
a lot of sense. He has not ever given me
much grief in the sleep department (he makes up for it in other areas – Ha!)
but lately he has had middle of the night wake ups. I couldn’t figure out if he was still sick
from a stomach but we all caught, or teething or anything else. This, however, seems like it might be the
issue! It’s possible he’s having baby nightmares! Poor guy.
Spinning Baby
This
means something entirely different during pregnancy, but it means exactly what
I say here. Adrian loves to spin so I
think it’s hilarious that BabyCenter has a section called “Baby Tornado” in
their 13 month 2 Week overview.
Not only
does he like to spin himself in circles like a little tornado, he also does
exactly what BBC describes in that he loves tearing through everything in his
path. He pushes, pulls, steps on, climbs
up, sits on, rips up, knocks over, pours out all things in his path.
He is
exploring and not being deliberately destructive, but he’s quite destructive nonetheless.
Solo Play
As much
as he enjoys playing with Mommy, Daddy and/or his Big Brother, Adrian sit
quietly and push a little car or train back and forth while softly murmuring “voom,
voom” or “choo choo” to himself. He also loves to sit with books or puzzles
(though he can’t read or complete a puzzle yet).
He will
play independently as long as he knows where we are as he does have a slight
touch of separation anxiety, though not nearly as bad as Mac had it when he was
young.
Play it Safe
This
topic discusses the topic of childproofing versus not childproofing. While childproofing does make life easier in
that you’re not constantly chasing a child away from danger, it’s also (in my
opinon) a bit of a handicap. In our
house we do little childproofing and more supervising. We taught Mac how to play safely with the
things in his environment and what areas were ok versus which areas were off
limits. It worked with Mac.
This time
around it is much more of a challenge.
Probably in part due to the fact that we have THREE kids now, but also
partly due to Adrian’s nature. He is
very curious for one and secondly, he’s very headstrong. Just try to make that little boy do something
he doesn’t want to. I dare you!
Other Fun Stuff
Adrian
loves his sister. Whenever he wants an
Ava fix he will go to her swing (whether she’s in it or not because he always
assumes she’s going to be in it). He
will make kissy sounds “mmmah!” and try to kiss her head.
He says:
“tha oo” for thank you whenever he is handed something
(especially food).
“Ah-bah”
for Ava
Baba for
bottle
Mama (just
started saying this one again at 13 months)
Dada
Baba also
for brother (Mac)
He points
at the sky, exactly as Mac did, whenever he hears an airplane.
He
learned to blow bubbles in his water cup and actually taught this to Mac (Mac
never did it before Adrian got the ball rolling).
He has a
firey temper yet is pretty easy going.
He has 6 teeth and just sprouted 2 more on the bottom.
Happy 14 months, Baby Sito!
